The Scheryn Art Collection is very pleased to have artworks by Ian Grose, Moshekwa Langa, Deborah Poynton and Kemang Wa Lehulere in the exhibition ‘I have made a place’. The exhibition is curated by Khanya Mashabela and is on display in Gallery 9 at the Norval Foundation. The exhibition runs from 26 July 2021 – 27 September 2021.
Borrowing its title from the eponymous Gerda Scheepers painting, the gathering force of the exhibition can be summed up as follows: “Our endless and impossible journey toward home is in fact our home.” Author David Foster Wallace used these words to describe our struggle to establish a sense of self. The exhibition explores the processes through which we make a place for ourselves, physically and psychologically.
Scheryn is grateful to the Norval Foundation for the opportunity to continue to share the collection. We openly welcome any loan requests for artworks in the collection. It is our aim that the collection becomes available to the public in a way that allows educational opportunities and engages new audiences.
