As Top-Tier Artists Age, the Art World Hopes to Cash In

As a generation of artists grow older so auction houses, galleries and dealers are scrambling to represent their very lucrative estates. These estates are usually the domain of dealers and galleries but recently Sotheby’s has entered into the fray with the appointment of Christy Maclear, the chief executive of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. Another way in which Sotheby’s is adapting its organisation to resemble an all encompassing art business rather than just an auction house.
